I'm starting over. Here's why.
by Anna Heimkreiter
Whether you remember my old site, or this website popped up out of nowhere after a redirect, hi – let me explain what's going on here.
Atlas of Soul is the new dedicated home for all things archetypes, myth and personal growth. It was born out of both necessity and vision.
For a while, all of my creative projects lived together on my previous website, Where Wonder Waits. Archetype work mixed with my (admittedly many) other passions: stories from my travels, thoughts on being an artist and personal growth, my self-portraits, my illustrations, the occasional post about my cat.
Back when I first started exploring archetypes & myth, I never thought it would become more than a temporary project. Boy, was I wrong.
More and more people showed interest in this part of my work, and it started feeling a little too big for my small artist website. So after years of trying to juggle both within the same container, I finally decided to make a split, and give them the home they deserve.
Why I moved part of my work here
1. It's not for everyone
Let’s be real: archetypes, feminine/masculine energy teachings, and mythology are a bit of a niche interest. They’re powerful and meaningful to me, but they don’t define me as a whole person, nor do they represent everything I want to share on my personal blog and portfolio site. Not everyone who comes to read about my mountain adventures, for example, is looking for a deep dive into the divine feminine. I know some people love precisely that odd mixed bag, but ultimately, it limited how deeply I could go into these topics.
That’s why Atlas of Soul exists: here, I can let archetypes, mythology, and personal growth take center stage. Time to fully live out my woo-woo side and follow my curiosities 😉
2. The tech didn't cooperate
Over time, my archetype work, especially the quiz, got a little too popular. Whenever the topic made its rounds on social media, traffic spiked; I think the wildest month hit over 120,000 visitors. That kind of virality might sound amazing, but it came with a big problem: It massively slowed down my website, sometimes to the point where it became unusable.
At first, I figured the issue was cheap hosting, so I upgraded… then upgraded again. But even with better servers, the same problems kept happening. I kept getting messages about something on the site not working, like the quiz being broken, people not being able to complete their workbook purchases, or comments not going through.
All the updating and maintenance became a huge headache, so I knew something needed to change. To be fair, I'm still not sure I did myself a favor there (after all, now I have two websites to maintain and pay for haha). But at least now the central archetype work has a stable home, and people can actually reach it without the site breaking.
3. Space to grow
The archetypes had long outgrown the little corner it occupied on my old site. The more I leaned into this work, the more I realized I wanted to expand it, whether that's diving into masculine archetypes or other topics that would support personal growth.
Separating it into its own home gave me the freedom to do that. Instead of trying to make archetypes fit in with so many other things, I can now present them with the depth they deserve.
It also allowed me to rethink the messaging and refine the branding so it feels more aligned with what this work is about. Working on the new logo and design was a lot of fun and I hope you like it! I chose the Rubin's vase as a central symbol (where you can see either a chalice or two faces, depending on how you look at it), since it so beautifully reflects how we find ourselves mirrored in story and myth, the masculine and feminine, inner and outer, self and other.
What you can expect going forward
Atlas of Soul will be:
- where I share new blog posts and insights on archetypes, myth, personal growth (so if this is your vibe, AoS is your new go-to site)
- where you can shop all guided resources like workbooks
Where Wonder Waits will remain:
- the home of the archetype quiz (at least for now, migrating it is unfortunately a bit difficult, but I hope people won't mind too much being redirected here after taking it)
- the place for my personal stories and photography
Whether you follow along just here or on both sites, know that I am incredibly grateful for your support and interest in my work. I can't wait to share and create more magic for you.
And if there's any feedback on the new site you'd like to share or want to suggest any topics you'd like me to cover, let me know in the comments.
