When learning about the feminine archetypes, the primary goal is usually self-discovery, directing the attention within. But then you may also wonder... what would the Sage wear to a business meeting? Or, could I dress up as the Lover to feel more sensual?
That’s exactly what this guide is for – a lighthearted exercise I suggest you don't take too seriously. (After all, I’m probably the least stylish woman on earth. What I do have, though, is excellent pattern recognition, and you’ll notice that in movies, books, and art, certain archetypes often show up with a recurring visual language.)
We all know that how we dress impacts how we feel – so if you want to call a specific archetype into your life, adopting the style may help you embody their energy.
If anything, I hope this guide makes the archetypes feel a bit more real, like people with their own quirks and habits walking among us. I also created a little mood board for each archetype, so you can get a feel for their aesthetic and vibe.
The fun part: feminine archetype styles decoded
The Sage archetype's style
Color palette: neutrals like ivory, beige, grey, muted blues and greens
Materials: linen, cotton, wool, matte fabrics
Energy: smart, calm, timeless, minimalist
Coffee order: definitely black, no sugar
The Sage dresses with intention, favoring timeless pieces over fleeting trends. Her wardrobe leans into clean lines, neutral to cool tones, and natural fabrics that feel both practical and refined. Think tailored trousers with the matching blazer, and long coats that last a lifetime. She doesn’t clutter her look with unnecessary details, just like she doesn't have the patience for anything unnecessary in general. Simplicity is her signature. Everything she wears has a sense of quiet confidence; there is nothing to distract, so she can focus on the important things (like solving life’s riddles before breakfast).
Accessories, for the Sage, are chosen with the same level of discernment. She rarely opts for statement pieces and prefers minimalist jewelry to set subtle accents, or a pair of glasses that make it known she reads philosophy for fun. Her style communicates thoughtfulness and restraint: she knows she doesn't need to overdo it. Instead, she lets her grounded energy do the talking. The Sage’s look is all about calm authority and looking sharp without trying too hard. Bonus points if you carry a pile of books under your arm, preferably something so dense no one dares ask you about it.
The Maiden archetype's style
Color palette: pastels (pale pink, soft apricot, powder blue), white
Materials: chiffon, lace, cotton, soft knits
Energy: fresh, youthful, dreamy, innocent
Coffee order: vanilla latte with extra foam (and probably extra syrup)
The Maiden’s style is fresh, light, and a little whimsical, like the first days of spring turned into an outfit. She gravitates toward soft colors, delicate fabrics, and shapes that feel joyful. I picture her in flowy dresses, dainty blouses, floral prints, and skirts that twirl just right when there’s a breeze. Her style maches her natural charm, dressing in a way that makes life feel a little softer, a little more romantic. You cannot help but feeling hopeful and optimistic being around her.
Accessories for the Maiden are playful finishing touches. A simple pendant, a ribbon in her hair, or cottage-core shoes that look like they’re made for wandering through meadows. Her look is sweet and dreamy; wearing something heavy or dramatic wouldn't even occur to her. The Maiden’s style, just like her personality, is all about innocence, curiosity, and openness. And yes, if she happens to braid daisies into her hair or gets caught daydreaming in class, that’s part of the uniform.
The Queen archetype's style
Color palette: deep reds, burgundy, black, cream, gold
Materials: silk, velvet, cashmere, heavy fabrics
Energy: commanding, magnetic, regal, confident
Coffee order: double espresso, preferably three times a day
Have you practiced your royal wave yet? The Queen dresses with authority and refinement, choosing pieces that radiate confidence. Her wardrobe leans heavily toward luxury: she might enjoy tailored blazers, power suits, jewel-toned dresses, and long coats that sweep with every step. Just like a real queen, she gravitates toward fabrics with weight and richness, and colors that demand attention. Nothing in her outfit is accidental; every detail is carefully chosen to reinforce her presence (which comes with the posture worthy of a queen).
Accessories are her crown jewels (sometimes literally). An elegant gold necklace or a carefully chosen handbag is all she needs. Her beauty choices are equally intentional: The Queen knows the magic of bold red lips, polished hair, and a scent that makes people turn their heads. Above all, the Queen’s style is about owning the room before she even speaks. And yes, if you pretend your office chair is a throne, you’re doing it exactly right.
The Huntress archetype's style
Color palette: earthy greens, browns, khaki, rust, charcoal
Materials: leather, denim, canvas, wool, utility cotton
Energy: independent, strong, untamed, practical
Coffee order: a strong Americano in a travel mug, with sugar for extra fuel
The Huntress dresses for movement and freedom. Her wardrobe is filled with practical pieces that are suited to head off on an adventure at any moment (which she probably will). She loves pieces like leather boots, jeans (not too tight), utility jackets, and layers that actually serve a purpose. Don't bother looking for her at Anthropologie, you'll find her in the outdoor and vintage stores of the world. Her hair is usually tied back or left a little messy, because honestly, who has time for styling when there are trails to conquer? She values practicality more than perfect looks.
Her palette leans into muted, earthy tones. She doesn't worry about which clothes she throws on too much, as long as they fit and are just as easy to take off, you know, just in case she feels like jumping into the trail-side stream. Make-up? Not needed. If she ever wears accessories, they are minimal and functional. The Huntress’s style is about unfiltered authenticity, completed by a sun-kissed glow. It's the kind of look that makes you feel powerful and untamed. (But no worries, you don't have to skip your showers to connect with your primal self.)
The Lover archetype's style
Color palette: reds, blush pinks, vibrant orange, cream tones
Materials: silk, satin, lace, velvet
Energy: sensual, magnetic, intimate, radiant
Coffee order: rich, dark hot chocolate, savored slowly
The Lover doesn’t "get dressed" so much as wraps herself in desire. Fabrics matter more than anything, alluring and soft to the touch. Her outfits gently hug the body, hinting at what's hidden underneath, but not necessarily revealing anything. Perfume is her secret weapon, chosen as carefully as her clothes. Her color palette is warm and inviting: she uses deep reds, soft creams, and the occasional daring black, all creating an atmosphere. If you ever ended up admiring your final look in the mirror, thinking "gosh, I look fantastic", that's Lover energy right there.
She cleverly uses jewelry to accentuate her best features, making sure people's eyes land exactly where she wants them to be. Still, the Lover’s style isn’t about dressing for others; it’s about reveling in your own sensuality. She’s the type to wear lipstick to the grocery store, just because it makes her feel alive, who lets her hair down to dance and wears a silky dress just to lounge at home. Honestly, her whole style could be summed up as: “dress like you might end up in a romantic subplot at any moment.” (Is this how we end up in a romantic subplot?! I should dress like the Lover more often.)
The Nurturer archetype's style
Color palette: bright and warm (orange, pink, red) combined with warm neutrals (cream, beige, terracotta)
Materials: cotton, linen, soft knits, cashmere
Energy: cozy, grounding, caring, approachable
Coffee order: pumpkin spice latte… year-round (we listen and we don't judge)
The Nurturer dresses with comfort and warmth in mind; not necessarily in a sweatpants 24/7 way, but in a way that makes everyone around her feel instantly at ease. Think cozy knits, wrap dresses, and soft sweaters that look like they could double as blankets (which, very likely, they sometimes will do). With a preference for lighter colors, her fabrics are natural and soft to the touch, the kind of textures that make you want to lean in and stay a while.
Her accessories tend to be simple and meaningful, maybe a pendant gifted by a loved one or a woven tote that carries everything from snacks to emergency tissues, not just for herself, but the entire family. The Nurturer doesn’t do bold choices; her entire look is understated. Instead of make-up, she comes with the kind of natural glow that just seems ridiculously healthy. Overall, her style is all about making the world feel softer, safer, and a little more cared for.
The Mystic archetype's style
Color palette: deep purples, midnight blue, black, silver, gold accents
Materials: flowing silks, layered knits, velvet, sheer fabrics
Energy: mysterious, intuitive, otherworldly, spiritual
Coffee order: ugh... herbal tea, please
The Mystic dresses like she has one foot in this world and the other in a realm full of moonlight and incense. Long, flowing fabrics, layered textures, and draped silhouettes are her go-tos. Her palette is cosmic and moody: deep purples, midnight blue, black, and a touch of shimmering silver or gold; just the kind of look you would expect from someone reading her tarot cards with the same passion as books.
She might float more than walk into the room, carrying plenty of hidden talismans like crystal pendants or stacks of rings. Hair often flows loose and untamed, or is wrapped in some sort of silky turban thing. Her makeup leans toward shimmering or slightly otherworldly – only the Mystic could teach you to wear eyeliner in a way that slices through dimensions. Her style is all about energy, and she wears exactly what her intuition tells her to.
Which archetype's style will you try on next?
And there you have it: seven archetypes, seven very distinct vibes. I hope you had as much fun reading as I did putting this together!
